What IS a vision board?
Vision Board, or Dream Board, by definition is “a collage of pictures, text, and other items that represent and affirm one’s dreams and ambitions, created to help visualize and focus on one or more specific aspirations”. This technique also harnesses the power of cosmic creation, Law of Attraction and jump starts us mentally, physically and emotionally to directing our energy towards attaining these goals.
But what does that mean?
That means, get creative! Allow your mind to wander, to dream. What would you like to achieve this month? By the summer? By the end of the year? What do you want to change, how do you want to grow? Short-term goals and long-term goals, any and all are welcome on your vision board!
There are many ways to begin the process, you can start by asking yourself questions like the ones above, and writing down the answers. You can brain-storm power words or affirmations that relate to your goals, your mental or emotional well-being. Look at pictures, in magazines, or the internet. Draw! There is no limit or boundaries for what you can use for your vision board. You can use it to create something new, and also to sustain something already within your life, you health, a relationship etc etc A vital aspect of your vision board, a key feature, is your emotional well-being, how you relate to your goals, how they make you feel and embodying those feelings. Having a more positive mental outlook or emotional state, are things that can be, and should be, included in your vision board. Anything that represents to you, where you want to be in any, and all ways that are relevant to you!
What do I need?
More often than not, we often walk around with some kind of electronic device all the time, whether it’s a phone, Ipad or other .. you can create Vision Boards on a device however if one of your goals is to spend less time on the phone … probably best not to use it for your vision board!
The best, Tried and Tested Method is to get hands on! Pens, Pencils, Glue, Scissors, Magazines (ok so here the internet and a printer might help) a board (as big or small as you like – some people use one board for everything and some use smaller boards for each aspect or for short term goals) and something to hang up or pin your vision board to. Time – very important. You want to allow yourself plenty of time to find the words, images etc that truly reflect what it is you want to convey and give yourself a stress free environment, setting yourself the right atmosphere can make a big difference in your creation.
Once you feel you have everything you need, you can begin! Gather all the images, power words, anything that you feel reflects your goals and dreams. Star placing them on the board, moving them around, see where they FEEL right then you can glue them down!
Some people like to leave spaces on their vision board to allow for change, for new things to come in, so don’t feel you have to fill the space! And if you do feel the need to fill the space … ask yourself why is that? If you Journal, having your journal handy while you create your vision board could be a great combination tool as it gives you the opportunity to notice and reflect upon your process.
You can also revisit your vision board, changing it as often or as little as you feel necessary, sometimes the goals are achieved in such a short amount of time you may wish to put something else on there, or your goal may have changed and so you might want to put things on your Vision Board that reflect that.
Dates, putting the date of when you created the vision board, the Universe loves speed! If you have chosen to pin down, rather than glue down any images, perhaps right the date you would like to achieve that goal underneath the image. When you achieve you goal, take a peek and see!
Ok, so I made my Vision Board, now what?
Hang, or place your vision board somewhere that you will see it often. A great place is in the bedroom so it’s the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see before you sleep. Each time is an opportunity to spend a few moments tuning into the images and feelings of your vision board, you can use it for meditation, visualisation, you may even find yourself dreaming about the things on your Vision Board!
Keeping it active, alive, in your mind and your heart will only boost the energy you direct towards your goals!
If one of the things on your vision board doesn’t require you to limit your time on a device, you could also take a picture of your vision board so you can spend some time during your breaks or lunch to spend a few moments tuning into your vision board.
